Beginner Beanie (Shell Stitch) Pattern:
Crochet Easy Beginner Beanie in a Few Hours Pattern:
Crochet Hook: G/6/4.25
Yarn: Size 4 Medium Weight Wool Yarn by Cascade Yarns
Attach yarn to crochet hook using a Magic Circle (MC).
Row 1: CH 1 and place 12 DC inside MC.
Row 2: Following a continuous loop (or spiral) pattern, skip the 1st 2 DC st, then place 4 DC st BETWEEN the 2nd & 3rd DC st. Make sure you mark the 1st of the 4 DC to indicate the new row. *Skip the next 2 DC st, then place 4 DC between the 2nd & 3rd st.* Repeat * around the row, making sure to work in the gap between the last st from Row 1 and the 1st st from this current row (24 total DC).
Row 3: Skip the 1st 2 DC st, then place 3 DC st BETWEEN the 2nd & 3rd DC st. Make sure you mark the 1st of the 3 DC to indicate the new row. *Skip the next 2 DC st, then place 3 DC between the 2nd & 3rd st.* Repeat * around the row, making sure to work in the gap between the last st from Row 1 and the 1st st from this current row (36 total DC).
Row 4: Skip the 1st 3 DC st (they should be clumped together), then place 4 DC st BETWEEN the 3rd & 4th DC st. Make sure you mark the 1st of the 4 DC to indicate the new row. *Skip the next 3 DC st, then place 4 DC between the 3rd & 4th DC st.* Repeat * around the row, making sure to work in the gap between the last st from Row 1 and the 1st st from this current row (48 total DC). Keep in mind for this row that you should be working the 4 DC st between the clumps of 3 DC st in the previous row.
Row 5: Skip the 1st 2 DC st, then place 3 DC st BETWEEN the 2nd & 3rd DC st. Make sure you mark the 1st of the 3DC to indicate the new row. *Skip the next 2 DC st, then place 3 DC between the 2nd & 3rd st.* Repeat * around the row, making sure to work in the gap between the last st from Row 1 and the 1st st from this current row (60 total DC).
Row 6: Skip the 1st 3 DC st (they should be clumped together), then place 4 DC st BETWEEN the 3rd & 4th DC st. Make sure you mark the 1st of the 4 DC to indicate the new row. *Skip the next 3 DC st, then place 4 DC between the 3rd & 4th DC st.* Repeat * around the row, making sure to work in the gap between the last st from Row 1 and the 1st st from this current row (72 total DC). Keep in mind for this row that you should be working the 4 DC st between the clumps of 3 DC st in the previous row.
Rows 7 - 17: Skip the 1st 4 st of the row, then place 4 DC st in the gap between the 4th and 5th st (these should be worked in the gaps created in the previous row). *Skip the next 4 st (they should be clumped together), then place 4 DC in the gap between the 4th and 5th st.* Repeat * around the row (72 total st).
Row 18: Skip the 1st 4 st of this row (they should be clumped together), and place 3 DC st in the gap between the 4th and 5th st. *Skip the next 4 st, then place 3 DC in the gap between the 4th and 5th st.* Repeat * around the row (60 total st).
Rows 19 - 25: Working in the top portion of the st (where you would traditionally place a st), place 1 SC in each st in each row, still following the spiral pattern.
Finish off by placing 1 SL st in the next 3 st.
Cut and tie off yarn, hiding tails on the inside of the beanie.
