Double play: Two short-lived sitcoms from the 90s that have a lot in common: the same two leads, the same producer, even the same composer.
• The Jackie Thomas Show: A former slaughterhouse worker gets his own tv show; viewers get to see the making of a sitcom a la 'Dick Van Dyke'. Premiering in 1992 after 'Roseanne', it debuted at #2 for the week (its ratings high point). But ABC was on the fence regarding a second season, so Tom Arnold decided for them: he quit.
• Tom: A few years later (1994) the two leads (Arnold and Alison LaPlaca) were back in another show created by Roseanne. This time Arnold was a family man living near a dump, trying to build a dream house. 11 episodes were produced, ten aired.
00:00 The Jackie Thomas Show: opening titles. Theme by W.G. 'Snuffy' Walden ('Early Edition').
