For a sci-fi series that aired for five seasons and acquired a loyal following, 'Babylon 5' was unlucky in spawning spin-off shows that could grow the on-screen franchise. 'Legend of the Rangers' was a pilot movie for a series that never developed, while 'The Lost Tales' was to be a series of direct-to-video productions that ended after just one DVD. At least 'Crusade' (1999, spawned from the pilot movie 'Call to Arms') did make it to series: Gary Cole (now on 'NCIS') led a team trying to find the key to stopping a deadly plague. But the production was plagued with interference from TNT and the cable channel cancelled the series before a single episode aired. When the 13 eps finally appeared on TNT they were in the wrong order (apparently due to several factors there is no wholly consistent order).
