Thinking of getting into film photography? Want to know a good place to start. You really can't go wrong with a Canon AE-1 Program! You can shoot it fully auto, and the auto functions are really really good, or if you're getting good and feel more adventurous then you can put the whole thing into full manual.
This camera was my very first camera of any kind, I got it when I was 13 years old in 1993. I have dragged that camera around with me ever since, run thousands of rolls through it, given it hell through probably 20 house moves and probably 100 international trips, and it is still going strong. It hasn't been serviced in 27 years!
Ok... as you'll see in this video, it really is overdue a service, and I'll be getting it done soon. It's starting to make some weird screeching noises when I fire the shutter. But amazingly, despite the noises, it's still taking perfect photos!
The cameras are really built like tanks. Easy to use, easy to get film for, reliable, and won't let you down!
Whether you're a digital shooter, or a medium format shooter, or large format, whatever type of photography you do, you really should have one of these in your collection. They're cheap, versatile and insanely good!
Ok, enough 35mm videos now, heading back to the trusty 120 after this!
