So, let's talk about the CARONTE 4x5. What a beautiful camera. I don't think you get a good sense of it in the video but the Tuscan Cypress wood is stunning. The other updates from the Air Force 4x5 are also great, the whole chassis feels more sturdy, the base is now all metal instead of part plywood, nothing wrong with plywood but this just feels a cut above.
Movements are great, the Caronte has the usual Stenopeika zero-ing stops to help you easily find those verticals and centres on the front standard. The clips on the back are new, as shown in the vid.
They have this sprung hinge on the bottom as well as the usual pull-away mechanism on the top. I've yet to figure out what these are for. I should check in with Samuele actually. But I'm assuming it makes retrieval of the film holder a little easier, especially when using non-standard inserts there, such as the Minutero 2.0.
As with the Air Force 4x5, this awesome little camera can take a lens as short as 60mm. Stenopeika website says 60mm with a bag bellows, but I showed in this video that you can easily get a 65mm on there and still have some movement, so I would actually guess that you could get a 60mm, or possibly even a 55mm without a bag bellows, but you'd get no movements.
Now, to the shoot itself. Firstly, I have absolutely no clue at all what happened to the first shots I took with the 65mm. I must have messed up the focusing, I can only guess that when I focused before those two shots the ground glass wasn't seated properly. I had just switched from portrait orientation to landscape, so maybe I messed something up.
Also a bit of a shame about the Emil Busch lens, I was hoping for more from that one, but hey ho.
