A baby’s cries from inside a locked trailer helped lead Atlanta Police to two young sisters who had been missing for more than a day.
Bodycam video shows officers cutting the lock and pulling the 4-year-old and 11-month-old girls to safety Monday. Police say the trailer had no air conditioning as temperatures outside climbed to about 97 degrees.
Their babysitter, 42-year-old Lakesha Brown, was arrested and charged with two counts each of kidnapping and first-degree cruelty to children.
Investigators say Brown met the girls’ mother through a Facebook group about a year ago and gradually gained her trust before allegedly kidnapping the children after babysitting them August 15.
Police later learned Brown was already wanted in Alabama after allegedly kidnapping a 4-day-old baby in 2021 under strikingly similar circumstances.
