"THEIR STORY WAS CRAP.” A Rochester, New York mother and her partner have been arrested for the murder of a 2-year-old boy.
On May 10, police responded to reports of a toddler who was found unresponsive. The toddler, Isaiah Jones (also known as Isaiah Velez), was taken to a local hospital where staff found bruising and bite marks on the boy's body. Other injuries included blunt force trauma to the head which led to a brain bleed. After a week in the hospital, Isaiah died on May 18.
Police say Isaiah’s mother, 25-year-old India Duncan, and 30-year-old Joshua Velez "recklessly engaged in conduct" from May 8 to 10, causing blunt force trauma to the boy's head that caused his death. They also allegedly delayed getting medical treatment for him. At this moment, the motive for the abuse is still unclear.
Duncan and Velez were arrested on August 5 and charged with second-degree murder. Police say they anticipate additional charges will be filed against the pair.
