On June 15, 2023, mere hours after Chad Doerman killed his three sons, he found himself in a police interrogation room trying to explain his actions. What he said was at once bizarre and revelatory as he detailed his religious beliefs, his deteriorating mental state, and his attempts to seek help.
While the interrogation could have become key evidence against him, a judge later ruled it inadmissible because investigators violated Doerman's Miranda rights. Despite that, Doerman ultimately pleaded guilty to killing his three sons and was sentenced in August 2024 to three consecutive life sentences without parole, plus 16 years — a plea deal that eliminated the possibility of the death penalty.
