About this video: The first thing you’ll want to do is get the Minecraft Launcher setup. Specifically, we want to make sure that you have enough RAM allocated to Optifine. Adding more RAM can make a big difference in performance. In the launcher, go to “Installations” and click on your OptiFine Installation. Click “More Options” at the bottom and scroll down to “JVM Arguments” option. Set the number in “-Xmx4G” to the amount of RAM you want.
From there, launch Minecraft with OptiFine. It is worth noting that if you just want the absolute best performance possible, you can turn everything to off or fast and then turn on everything in the performance tab. However, we are going to go over the best balance of performance and playability in this video so that you can actually enjoy Minecraft while still getting great FPS.
Starting with the main video settings, you will want to set Graphics to Fast, Render Distance to 12, and Simulation Distance to 5. Then, turn Entity Shadows off and Dynamic Lights off. These settings alone will give you a solid boost in performance without making the game look bad. For shaders, you will want to keep those off as well if you are going for the best performance.
From there, we can move into the Quality settings. Set Mipmap Levels to off and Mipmap Type to Nearest. Turn Emissive Textures off, but keep Random Entities on. Set Better Grass to Fast and Better Snow to on. Turn Custom Fonts off, keep Custom Colors on, and turn Custom Sky off. Keep Custom Items on. Distortion Effects and FOV Effects are up to your preference, so set those to whatever you like.
Next, we will go into the Detail settings. Set Clouds to Fast and Cloud Height to whatever you prefer. Trees should be set to Smart, and Rain and Snow to Fast. Turn Sky off, Stars off, but keep Sun and Moon on. Turn Fog off, and Fog Start will not matter since Fog is off. View Bobbing, Held Item Tooltips, and Autosave Indicator are all personal preference. Keep Swamp Colors on, set Vignette to Fast, and Alternate Blocks to on. Set Entity Distance to 50% and Biome Blend to off.
Now, the Performance tab is really where you are going to see the biggest difference. Turn on Render Regions, Fast Render, Smart Animations, and Fast Math. For Smooth FPS and Smooth World, we recommend leaving these off at first so you can see your max FPS, and then turning them on after you check. Set Chunk Updates to 1, Dynamic Updates to on, Lazy Chunk Loading to on, and Chunk Builder to Semi Blocking. These settings together are going to give you a massive boost in performance.
For Animations, we recommend turning all of them off to start. Once you get in game and see what kind of FPS you are getting, you can start turning on things like water, lava, and fire animation if your FPS is still looking good.
Finally, in the Other settings, turn Show FPS on so you can see your performance, keep Weather on, Time set to Default, and Autosave to 6 minutes. Everything else in this tab is up to your personal preference.
