About this video: If you want to know how to share games on Steam with your friends or family, this is the video for you. We show you how to set up Steam Family, invite other Steam users, and start sharing eligible games from your Steam library. We also cover how Steam Family works for both adult and child accounts so you know exactly what options are available.
To get started, click your profile in the top right of Steam and select Account Details. From there, open Family Management on the left side. This is where you can either join an existing Steam Family or create a new one. If someone has already invited you to their family, any available invitations will appear here. Otherwise, you can select Create a Family and give your new Steam Family whatever name you want.
Once your family has been created, you can start inviting other people from your Steam friends list. When adding someone, Steam lets you choose whether they are joining as an adult or a child. After your members have been added, you can open the Library section to see which games are being shared between everyone in the family.
We also go over games that cannot be shared through Steam Family. In the example shown in the video, games that launch through a third-party launcher, such as Rockstar, do not appear as shareable games. This is important to keep in mind if you notice that a specific game from your Steam library is missing from your family's shared library.
Steam Family also includes additional management options for child accounts. Children can request access to games or request that a specific game be purchased. You can view their playtime and family history, manage which games they have access to, and decide what is or isn't shared with them. For adult members, your eligible games are shared by default, making it easy to share your Steam library with the adults you add to your family.
