About this video: LuckPerms is one of the best ways to add ranks and permissions to a Minecraft server, and this video shows you exactly how to get everything set up. We cover creating ranks, choosing which commands each rank can use, assigning players to groups, setting up rank progression, and even getting your rank prefixes to display in chat.

To get started, you will need LuckPerms installed on your server. There is a link in the description above to our complete LuckPerms guide. LuckPerms works on both plugin and modded servers, so you can install the correct version for your platform. Plugin versions go in your server's plugins folder, while modded versions go in the mods folder. For modded servers, LuckPerms only needs to be installed server-side.

Before configuring anything, make sure you are an operator on the server. You can do this by running "op" followed by your username in the server console. Once you have permission to manage LuckPerms, join the server and open the LuckPerms web editor. After trusting the editor session, you can handle almost everything from your browser instead of typing every permission manually in-game.

Inside the editor, groups are your ranks. You can create something like a Donator, Moderator, or Owner group, set its display name, add prefixes or suffixes, and configure parent groups if you want permissions to be inherited. You can then add individual permission nodes to control exactly what players in that rank can do. Permissions can also be disabled, set to expire, or limited with contexts such as only working in a specific world or server.

We also show you how to make an Owner rank with access to every permission using the wildcard permission. Be extremely careful with this since anyone in that group will effectively have access to everything on the server. Once your ranks and permissions are ready, apply your changes in the web editor.

Assigning players to ranks can be done with LuckPerms user commands by adding or removing parent groups. Players can belong to multiple groups at the same time, so we cover how to remove them from ranks as well. You can also create tracks that let you promote and demote players through a progression of ranks, which is useful if your server has multiple tiers.

Finally, we cover rank display names and prefixes. LuckPerms stores the prefix, but you still need a compatible chat plugin, such as EssentialsChat, to actually display that prefix in Minecraft chat.

With that, you now know how to add ranks and permissions to your Minecraft server with LuckPerms. If you have any questions, let us know in the comments. We will try our best to help you out.

Otherwise, be sure to give the video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel if you haven't already. Thanks in advance!
