Mahogany blank rounded and marked off for spirals. Used files and sand paper to shape out spirals. After final shaping and initial sanding I cut it free, cleaned up the end with a foam sanding pad mounted in my lathe in a Jacob’s chuck, and sealed with sanding sealer. Sanded to 400 grit then polished with Ack’s Abrasive Sanding Paste and Ack’s Polish/Restoring Paste.

$Turned Rosewood Bud Vase Small rosewood bowl blank, cut in half to expose more ‘decorative’ features. Turned to leave two sides flat. Heat fractures showed up along grain lines while coring - filled with black Starbond CA glue. Sanded to 600 grit and finished with three coats of shellac. Cleaned up with Beall buffing system with Tripoli and white diamond compounds, then finally Ack’s Carnuba Polishing Paste. Final dimensions - 5-5/8 inches tall, 2-3/4 inches at widest, 4-9/32 inches deep inside.$
