Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Alisha recorded her first single, “All Night Passion” in 1984 at the age of sixteen. She signed with Vanguard Records and recorded the album, “Alisha” with producer, Mark Berry. “Baby Talk” was a single off the album and reached #68 on the Hot-100 and #67 in the UK. It also made #1 on the US Dance chart, reflecting the market at which the album and single were aimed.

Alisha moved to RCA for her “Nightwalkin’” album in 1987 and then on to RCA for “Bounce Back” in 1990 with producer, Michael Jay. This was her most successful album, reaching #166 on the US album chart. It was, however, also Alisha’s last album.

Vanguard Records was formed in New York in 1947. It was primarily a “roots’ label with typical releases being recordings by Joan Baez and of the annual Newport Folk Festival in the 50s and early 60s. They also had a #1 single with the Rooftop Singers’ “Walk Right In” in 1963. They branched out in the late 70s and began releasing dance orientated recordings by acts such as the Players Association, the Space Cadets and Evelyn Thomas.
