This acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) brief practice of holding onto your pain demonstrates how when painful experiences show up in our lives, it's hard to justify accepting it—having it when it's uncomfortable. We generally don't like painful thoughts, feelings, sensations, or memories and want to get rid of it. This experiential exercise is about just that: learning to work with pain and understanding what happens when we fight it or try to control it.
