The body scan is a classic guided mindfulness meditation used popularly by the MBSR (mindfulness based stress reduction) and MBCT (mindfulness based cognitive therapy) programs. This meditation can be challenging for many, especially if you find yourself frustrated by the idea of relaxation. Commit yourself to making this meditation work for you.
If you find your attention wandering, know that this is normal. You are not alone. The purpose of the body scan is not to be free from stress but to instead learn how to shift your attention, work it, make it almost malleable so that you're more easily able to return to the present moment, noticing the sensations that are available to you.
