Hello once again to another car commercial of the past! Here we have a unique commercial by Pontiac, a unique 2 minute and 30 second promotion commercial with their song motto "Ride Pontiac Ride", showing various Pontiac vehicles to a very fitting song. Certainly my most favorite car commercial of the past yet.
Now of course, there are a considerable handful of various Pontiac automobiles featured in this commercial, I have chose to talk about in depth, one unique Pontiac featured in this commercial. The Pontiac Fiero. Let's go into detail shall we?
The Pontiac Fiero was a 2 door, mid engine fastback that was made from 1983 (1984 model year) to 1988. The name "Fiero" meant "proud" in Italian and "Wild", "Ferocious" or "Fierce" in Spanish, a fitting name complementing the body style of the Fiero.
The base Pontiac Fiero was powered by a base 2.5 Liter, Inline four cylinder, gasoline engine known as General Motor's "Iron Duke Engine" rated at only 98 Horsepower, at 135 FT-LB of Torque. Base transmission was a 4 speed manual, but a 5 speed Getrag manual transmission, 5 speed Isuzu Manual and 3 speed Turbo Hydramatic Automatic transmission were offered as options for the Fiero.
The only alternate engine offered for the Fiero was a 2.8 Liter, V6 engine that produced 140 Horsepower at 5200 RPM, with 170 LB-FT of Torque at 3600 RPM. A certainly more powerful choice over the 2.5 Liter, Inline four base engine.
The Fiero came with 3 trim levels; the Base trim level with the 2.5 Liter Inline 4 cylinder engine with basic interior styling, the SE trim level was a mid level sport trim that came with the 2.8 Liter V6 engine that included a special nose and running board on the Fiero, alongside a massive spoiler to keep the 2700 LB Fiero stable at high speeds, and the more sport oriented trim was the Fast Back GT trim that included a tuned V6 engine, alongside some new outside styling and handling improvements to set aside this trim level of the Pontiac Fiero, from the other two.
The base Fiero had a MSRP of under $8,000, making it an affordable 2 door fastback for consumers to purchase. The top of the line Fiero GT on the other hand cost $13,489 but included a powerful V6 engine, handling and outer styling improvements.
The Pontiac Fiero was a fun, 2 door fastback coupe that proved to be unique in outer design, but average in performance. However, the Fiero was notorious for multiple things, 2 of which were things such as Engine Fires occurring while driving, and engine cooling system issues that hindered the Fiero's image. The Fiero is still sought after by collectors today, especially the 1988 model due to its limited production numbers and improvements made in that specific year.
If you wanted a uniquely styled, 2 door fastback domestic vehicle with an affordable base price, the Fiero was the vehicle for you. Though, you might've had a chance of the Fiero's engine combusting into flames all of a sudden, maybe ruining your day, a tiny bit.
