Zira and Perdita met through a magical portal (not shown) that Perdita discovered on one of her walks. She was able to visit Africa, and soon she stumbled across Zira's pride.
In this AU Zira is the rightful queen living in a good place with lots of food. Perdita visited Africa twice a week, she and Zira liked each other from first sight, Zira told Perdita she looked like a "angel hyena", and Zira's pride is working together with hyenas, they are not foes.
Soon Zira and Perdita fell in love. But the portal is not a stable thing, and Perdita found out it can work only fifty times, after that the portal will dissappear. Fewer and fewer tries are left, Zira suggests that Perdita should stay with her. Zira's pride accepted Perdita, she has many friends among the lionesses.
But Perdita refuses. She can't leave her home, her humans and her old life. Zira is hurt, she didn't expect this answer, they argue, the memories of their happy times are still inside, but Zira and Perdita are falling out of love while Perdita is running out of time.
