Some AUs about characters who don't fit in, feel aliens along the others.
Angel is reincarnation of Kiara here and somehow she remembers her past life (yes, I took the "in another life" line rather literally).
Kiara was a princess who didn't like it in her kingdom, she felt trapped and isolated from Kovu, her lover and the only soulmate she had. They used to meet secretly, they were both gentle souls, hurt by the harsh outside world.
And still Kiara loved going outside, running wild away from her golden cage. One day she took off as usual and there was fire, Kiara died in it. Angel in this life is scared of the outside world, but she's a stray dog and has to be on the streets all the time.
Angel finds some safe - as she thinks - places, she watches how other animals and humans live and feel empty looking at all of this, she feels like there is no place for her in this town, and nobody would understand her remembering, Kiara's life means so much to her.
Angel looks at the moon and thinks that Kiara looked at the same Moon in the far far away place where all was also complicated but still beautiful.
She tries to talk to Chief, assuming he's hiding his real self, but he doesn't talk to her back, he's just silent. Scamp is Chief's son here, and to Angel surprise he really understood her, they smile at each other, Angel is smiling the same smile Kiara used to have when she watched sunsets.
Scar in this AU is a gentle lion who used to be called talented when he was a cub, everyone told him he's going to have promising life. But he didn't fit in to his pride's life when he grew up, always away with his dreams and fantasies, they are the only place he feels truly alive.
Scar tries to get friends with Zazu, hoping he has a "poet side" inside, knowing he might, Zazu secretly feels a lot of sympathy for Scar, but as a royal servant of the pride he refuses to show it.
Shere Khan lives in the swamp, he's been exiled by other animals (it's up to you to decide why). He misses the jungle, dreams about having friends, especially Bagheera, Shere Khan really likes him and thinks "maybe we could share some interests and be in beautiful places together?"
But Bagheera never actually talked to him, and Shere Khan is stuck there, surrounded by bird who love to gossip and mock him, making plans, million of plans how to finally get out of this all.
This song is just like anthem of escapism for me, a anthem of escapism full of bittersweet despair.
