The Broncos began their opening drive backed up at their own 14-yard line following a mediocre kickoff return. Manning lined up in the shotgun formation.
Due to the deafening crowd noise from Seattle fans at MetLife Stadium, the Broncos' offense struggled to hear the cadence. “We were using the snap count on the play and due to the noise no one could hear me,” Manning told reporters. As Manning walked forward toward the offensive line to adjust a protection check or change the play, Ramirez mistakenly thought he heard the snap count and hiked the football.
