On November 15, 2004, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb pulled off an iconic 14.1-second scramble against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, ultimately launching a 60-yard bomb downfield to wide receiver Freddie Mitchell.
Facing a 3rd-and-10 from the Eagles' 25-yard line late in the second quarter, the Cowboys brought a four-man rush. Defensive tackle Leonardo Carson immediately breached the backfield and grabbed a handful of McNabb’s jersey. McNabb shrugged him off, escaped out of the pocket to his right, and retreated as deep as his own 8-yard line. Finding no open targets on the right sideline, he put on the brakes and ran all the way across the field back toward the left. Thanks to relentless blocking from his offensive line, McNabb stayed on his feet long enough to reach the left numbers. Just two yards behind the line of scrimmage, he fired a bullet 54 yards through the air to a wide-open Freddie Mitchell.
The jaw-dropping play resulted in a 60-yard gain and extended an offensive drive that helped secure a dominant 49-21 blowout victory for Philadelphia at Texas Stadium. McNabb finished the historic game with 345 passing yards and 4 touchdowns.
