Getting good sounding audio into your DSLR can be achieved a few different ways. One of those ways is to plug a wired lavalier microphone directly into the microphone input on your DSLR. However this doesn't always mean you will get good sounding audio. You still need the right microphone.
The AspenMics wired lavalier mics are a great option for going directly into an audio recorder or in this case into your DSLR camera. I'm using the Canon 60D but any camera that has a microphone input and provides microphone level power will work with both the AspenMics mono and stereo wired lav.
One of the ways to get useable audio from your DLSR's audio input is to have a microphone that doesn't require you to use too much of the DSLR's preamp. This is a weak point on many DSLR cameras as they often produce noise in your audio when turned up too far.
The Aspen mics mono and stereo lav are slightly different in how sensitive they are. The mono version allows you to use less of the camera's preamp but only puts audio onto the left side of your stereo channel. This is easily adjust in post production.
The stereo mic. is about 3-4 less sensitive but sends a dual mono signal or what they call "stereo." In this case it's not really a stereo microphone. It simply places the signal on both channels of a stereo signal.
Between the two microphones I didn't notice much of a difference in the noise floor once audio was loudness normalized. Because of this, I think you could buy either microphone and be happy with the results but as you can hear in this video, I was able to get more signal out of the mono version and it's always nice to be able to run the preamp lower.

![Sony a6500 and a6300 Picture Profiles - What Are Their Names?
Do you know the names of each Sony a6500 picture profile? These are the official names and how they look. ► All gear linked below*.
The a6500 has 9 picture profiles (PP1-PP9). Its not obvious what each of these is named by Sony. I found some videos and info online but nothing that was a definite confirmation of each profiles factory default name. Here they are, as listed by Sony:
PP1: Movie
PP2: Still
PP3: Natural
PP4: Faithful
PP5: Cine1
PP6: Cine2
PP7: S-Log2
PP8: S-Log3 [S-Gamut3.Cine]
PP9: S-Log3 [S-Gamut3]
This seems like it should be obvious but it does not list these in the camera itself or in the manual that comes with the camera.
Only when I scanned the QR code on the front of the included users manual, did I find each picture profile listed with additional details.

![Canon 40mm F2.8 Lens Review - Why Im Returning It

This prime lens gives you a nice large aperture at f2.8, allowing in lots of native light to the sensor so that you get clean images in low-light.
Its an EF lens so it fits full size Canon sensors as well as crop sensors like the Canon 70D, 80D, etc. Its extremely affordable so it can be a great first lens and its so small that it barely adds any size or weight to your camera. So why am I sending it back?
I dont need it. I bought this lens to adapt to my Sony a6500 using the Sigma MC-11 adapter and in that setup I did not get all the functionality that I would want such as continuous auto-focus in video mode. So even though I like the lens a lot, its better for me to return the lens and apply that money towards a native Sony lens.
Other than that, I would definitely keep this lens and you can see the results show just how well the 40mm performs. There is also a 28mm version of this lens but its crop sensor only. However that focal length might be better suited to what you are shooting and a better buy especially if you dont plan to upgrade to a full sensor camera like the Canon 6D or 5D series.
The focus ring is tiny and could lead to getting your finger in the shot but that is about the only negative.
It is an STM lens so when its paired with a Canon camera with an STM motor, the lens is almost silent while focusing.
Its a plastic body but still feels sturdy and the mount is made of metal so its not likely to break unlike some of the cheaper plastic mounts.

![Zoom Lens Apertures - Constant vs Variable

One of the decisions to make when choosing a lens for your DSLR camera is what kind of aperture do you want or need. Cheaper zoom lenses, sometimes referred to as kit lenses because they come packaged with a camera body, have a variable aperture. That means that as you zoom in, increasing your focal length, your aperture, the hole in the lens that controls how much light hits your sensor, gets smaller. For example, a 18-100mm zoom lens may have an aperture range of 3.5 to 5.6. Which means you will be able to open your aperture all the way to its maximum range (3.5 in this example) when then lens is at 18mm. When the lens is zoomed all the way to 100mm, the aperture can only open as wide as f5.6. The results are that you will get less natural light into your camera, may have to increase you ISO, potentially causing more noise in your image and your depth of field will not be as shallow—your backgrounds will not be as out of focus as they would be with a wide aperture.
With a constant aperture lens, your aperture will remain the same, going as wide as your lenses maximum constant aperture, throughout the entire zoom range. Youll be able to get wider aperture at longer focal lengths which can produce a shallow depth of field and allow more natural light to reach the sensor.
