Don't forget this step when processing your podcast and video audio...leveling all audio tracks so that you have a volume balanced mix. And it's as easy and drag and drop, regardless of what editing system you use!
You don't have to know any audio processing techniques (compression, normalization, etc.) in order to get a perfectly level audio mix each time. And on top of that, your audio, once processed, will always be the same loudness from one production to the next.
The answer, Auphonic.com. I use Auphonic for all my audio productions to make sure the level of my audio within each audio track is consistent. This means your audience can set a volume that is comfortable to listen to and not have to worry about having to readjust their volume because either your own voice is very dynamic (loud and soft) or your co-host or guest has different levels than you. I see some of the biggest podcasts and YouTube channel fall down on this process and it likely cost them subscribers or at least frustrates the audience.
The key to this kind of audio leveling is that Auphonic "analyzes the content of audio files using machine learning techniques and is capable of balancing loudness variations between segments in one file. In both peak normalization and loudness normalization processing, the dynamic range (the difference between the loudest and quietest segments) is retained and therefore you could still have a mismatch of level between various audio tracks or even within a single track of audio. Auphonic equals all of this out as well as doing loudness normalization so that your podcast and video has equal volume for each episode your create.
Alternative methods include using a Loudness meter inside your editing system to measure your audio as you edit. And there are plugins from Waves (Maxx and Vocal Rider) that can adjust your audio in your editor as well. And finally, The (old) Levelator which can be found for Windows and Mac (although it did not work on my Mac). It's outdated and not supported so I wouldn't expect much but you can find them here:
