WIND: The place I selected in the bush to make a new winter camp was protected on 3 sides from the wind - but the wind direction changed to the one side it was not protected, and blew strongly through the campsite. Fortunately, I was using my Snowtrekker hot tent, where I can be inside for all the heat and comfort I need, so it was not an issue. If I had been cold camping using an open fire, I would have had to bundle up, gather and burn much more wood, and maybe build a wind break. Wind exposure is always an important consideration when winter camping.
