When cooking an on open fire with a grill, I have a particular 3-sided configuration I like to use with a back chimney rock, and side support rocks for my grill. Height of the grill is 1-1 1/2 hand widths. The 3-sided rock set tends to be the traditional one you see in the northern canoe back country.
I show my typical firewood prep of splits, and using black spruce twigs for kindling. On this video I showed using my waxed jute tinder tube and ferro rod to light a feather stick, just for practice. Usually I use birch bark, but its good to practice with other methods.

Grill is a Purcell Trench Grill, "Traveler" model.
Pots are Evernew Titanium, "deep" model, sizes 1.9L and 1.4L. I installed my own wire bail handles. Frypan is an 8 inch Primus LiTech folding locking handle model.
