When I hear stories of people disappointed by “Gua Sha facials” (not ours, obvi), it’s almost always because what they received was lymphatic drainage with a Gua Sha tool—not true Gua Sha. Ask any lymphatic drainage expert (like @lymphloveclub), and they’ll tell you: LD is best done with bare hands. So when you use a Gua Sha tool to do lymphatic drainage, you’re not getting the best out of either practice.

Real facial Gua Sha involves varying depths of pressure and a focus on identifying and opening blocked energy channels in order to stimulate better blood flow—core principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

It’s only when Gua Sha is practiced with a TCM foundation that you start to see and feel the kind of results we’re used to in clinic.

This is why, outside of licensed acupuncturists, I don’t consider someone truly educated in Gua Sha unless they were trained by a licensed TCM practitioner with at least 5 years of clinical experience.
