Yesterday I drove all the way up to Marion County for one of their tests to meet up with Bruin (StormWarning04).
We decided on this WPS-4004 right in the middle of downtown Marion. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that it's mounted on the old standpipe of the Thunderbolt 1000T that used to be installed here. That Thunderbolt was relocated to Big Island Township in 1998 when this siren was installed, and the Thunderbolt used to serve as the city's air raid/tornado siren back in the cold war. There is also a fallout shelter sign on the fire station as well.
This 4004 seems to glitch out in voice and does not follow cardinal directions that it should during the voice messages. Nevertheless, this siren, especially the voice message was pretty loud. I enjoyed it. Pardon the graininess and the wind, it was raining pretty good all day, and it was cold, too. Enjoy!
Marion County tests their sirens on the Last Saturday of every month at noon, year-round. Tests do not depend on weather conditions. The Whelens in the City of Marion and Marion Township do one minute of alert followed by 4 voice messages. The rest of the sirens in the county do 3 minutes, except for the Fedelcode in La Rue (which does a short blast and is on a timer to go off presumably every day at noon), and Prospect's Darley which has been disconnected as the power to the building it's at is shut off.
