Accepting who someone is doesn’t mean you agree with their behavior. It doesn’t mean you condone it. And it definitely doesn’t mean it’s okay.

You get to decide: Is this behavior okay with me? Or not?

Growing up, I wasn’t allowed to ask that question. In my family of origin, harmful behavior was labeled “right” simply because it came from a parent. Their authority justified anything.

But that’s not the truth. And we don’t have to pass that confusion on to our kids. They get to decide. You get to decide.
