Wat Saket, also known as Wat Saket Ratchawora Mahawihan, is a Buddhist temple in Bangkok that features a large golden chedi or pagoda at the top of a manmade mountain. The chedi contains Buddha relics that were originally from India and Sri Lanka. This mountain and the chedi that is part of it, are known as The Golden Mount or Golden Mountain. You need to climb over 300 steps to get to the top, where, along with the golden chedi, you will find some of the best views of Bangkok anywhere in the city. A deadly cholera outbreak in the 19th century is a part of Wat Saket's history, as many victims were buried on this site. There is also a cave featuring a giant Buddha, a cemetery with cholera victims, and hundreds of colorful lanterns that are used for celebrations.
