On January 20, 2024. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office received multiple 911 calls with a male voice yelling in the background. Deputies responded to the residence and spoke with an individual outside who stated that there were two people inside the home with active warrants for their arrest, one of their names being (Steven). A records check showed Steven had an active warrant for false Imprisonment and battery or threat to judge, prosecutor, or law enforcement officer. Three deputies made entry into the residence through the rear door, while two remained outside on perimeter positions. Multiple announcements were made identifying law enforcement's presence as the three officers began searching the residence. As law enforcement began navigating the stairs to the second-story of the residence, deputies encountered Steven, who immediately open-fired on the three deputies that were on the stairwell. One officer returned fire, before all three deputies retreated out of the house to take cover behind a woodpile at the rear of the residence. Steven initiated contact with law enforcement from a second-story window facing the backyard, with four officers still behind the woodpile. Steven made it known to law enforcement that he had a double-barreled shotgun, additional rounds of ammunition, and was not going back with them, referring to law enforcement. Additional gunfire occurred, resulting in the immediate death of Steven. In total, four officers discharged their firearms, with 29 shots being fired. The SWAT team arrived in Bearcats and used them to gain entry to the residence. They were then able to clear the residence and located one deceased male, nobody else was inside. No law enforcement officers or members of the public were injured during the incident.
