On Day 1 of attempting snow removal during the arctic cold front, I attempted to use the dr power grader again to break up the ice but it didn't really work on the ice .... it did a decent job with wet snow though: youtube.com/watch?v=u37rIU0tc7s
On day 2 of attempting snow removal during trhe arctic cold front, I installed a kolpin switchblade snow plow on the atv but I didn't have a winch because its been stuck on a fedex truck for the last 7 days unable to deliver due to "weather delays". So instead of waiting, I made a temporary winch to see if the plow would work to remove ice ... of course, I didn't work very well but its no fault of the snow plow. On day 3 of attempting snow removal, I added weight to the snow plow front trying to get it to "bite" more into the ice and also hooked the grader up on the rear of the atv to see if the scarification teeth would break the ice up and the plow could just shove it out of the way (video coming soon) youtube.com/watch?v=jZ3kJVEOH0I
Lemme tell you something I learned about snow removal on an atv, you get a lot of snow blowing back in your face when it works and you are increasing the wind chill which was already well below zero. Add the wind from the atv, and I could only go about an hour at a time before having to come inside to warm up (i had 3 layers on my legs, 3 layers on my feet, 2 layers on my hands, and 4 layers on my core but wind chills were around -15 degrees F before adding the wind from the atv). Another thing I learned, must get to snow before it starts to melt. Another thing I learned, the grader makes really flat ice but if you drive making continuous S path from one end to the other, then turn around and do it again on the way back .... several passes, the grader cuts deep grooves into the ice and will give your tires just enough bite to get traction ... at least until the ice melts and flattens out again lol And the fedex shipment finally arrived 10 days after it was supposed to be delivered, and that started an entire week of highs in the mid-high 30's so now its all melting off at a pretty good rate. Hopefully I am more prepared for the next snowpocalypse (to be fair, in 11 years, this is the first time we had a bigger snow event that stuck around for more than 2-3 days. Its also the first time I have ever not been able to get out for 1 day but part of that was also because the jeep over-heated)
