I booked a short trip from the San Francisco Bay Area, to Reno, NV, to visit relatives and to check out the housing market there. The schedule called for taking Amtrak Train 6 (the eastbound California Zephyr) from Emeryville to Reno, on a schedule just short of seven hours. Little did I realize that the previous day’s westbound Zephyr was 12 hours late due to severe weather in the Midwest. That resulted in the eastbound departure leaving three hours late. While waiting, I caught several Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin trains as they passed through the station. Two of those trains were powered by the new Siemens SC44 Charger locomotives.
