On Sunday, March 13, 2013, the Niles Canyon Railway and the Pacific Locomotive Association held their annual Winterail Special, a steam excursion especially for rail photographers. This year the motive power was the Clover Valley Lumber Company No. 4, a 2-6-6-2 Mallet locomotive that spent most of its career hauling logs around Loyalton, CA. Prior to this event the locomotive last carried passengers in 1985 when it was at the Castro Point Railway in Richmond, CA.
The video covers the trip from Sunol to Niles and return with stops along the way for photo run-bys. In the interest of brevity and to keep the movie's file size at a reasonable 2GB, I edited out one of the run-bys entirely and two other run-bys that were repeats at the same location.
