Think Locally, Act Globally
The body is intricately connected, with all the tissues weaving together. Because of this interconnectedness, a movement that is restricted can happen anywhere along the targeted tissue or its relationships with other fascias and myofascias above or below. In this video, Jill checks in with Boomerang at the Wall, a deep lateral stretch. This pose opens the side seam of the body from fingers to feet. Stand next to the wall and place your left palm with fingers pointing up on the wall. Inhale, reach your right arm overhead and as you exhale, side bend to left attempting to touch your right palm with fingers pointing down against the wall. Now it’s time to roll the lateral seam. Jill is using the Coregeous Ball to massage into the ribcage. Breathing deeply into the ball for a few moments invites our nervous system to calm and accept the embrace of the Coregeous Ball. As you continue to breath and invite more movement, get a sense of the connection of the tissues up, down, front and back. With a therapy plus ball, Jill goes right for the tender gluteus medius, tucking the ball just under the iliac crest (hip bone). A few moments of breathing to settle in then using the Contract Relax technique to coax the plus ball a little deeper. She then begins to move in many directions, creating a rainbow shape just under the iliac crest, Cross Fibering the glute medius. Tucking and untucking the pelvic can help encourage the fascia to loosen up to fascilitate better range of motion. Roll 2-3 minutes per area, then recheck your Boomerang at the Wall.
