It doesn't matter how a crochet pattern suggests you start in the round, you can easily change the method to your preference.

While some techniques are better for different situations, all 3 techniques work and are correct for all projects worked in the round. Pick the one that works the best for you 😊

Option 1 🧶

🤎 Start with a chain, then slip stitch join to the first chain to form a ring to work into.

✨️ I usually do a chain 4 for 10 or 11 stitches and a chain 5 for 12 or 13 stitches.

🤎 After joining the ring, begin with a chain tall enough to match your stitches, then work the stitches into the center ring, holding the tail end against the chains as you work so you can crochet over top of it.

Option 2 🧶

🤎 Start with a chain, then work all of the stitches into the first chain.

✨️ I prefer this method for less than 10 stitches to prevent the fabric from cupping, or taking on a bowl shape.

🤎 Leave a longer tail end than usual so the stitches have yarn to pull from without leaving you with too small of a tail end to comfortable weave in.

🤎 Chain 2 for single crochet, 3 for half double crochet and 4 for double crochet. There is some flexibility here depending on your tension. Work all of the stitches into the first chain, working the last two over the slip knot to cover it, otherwise you'll have a gap after joining the round.

✨️ Proceed in pattern for Round 2.
