Tree Frog (family Hylidae) -- probably Hyla / Dryophytes sp. -- tadpoles scrape the bottom of a shallow pond at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, in Houston, TX, USA. They spring into action, wiggling their tails and moving around for a second or two, and then they seem to shut off for a moment, before repeating the cycle and springing back to life again. It's hard to tell, but I wonder if they're just chewing the food during the periods of relative inactivity?
