Tyler has been working on a lot of big animated films the last few years, his most obvious success being his score to the Mario movie. And in 2024, he returns to the Transformers franchise after he composed the beloved score for Transformers Prime. While I don't have a history with his Prime score, I really like his work on Transformers One, mostly the main theme for the film itself. Usually preceded by a three note theme statement, it immediately sets the tone of wonder, mystique, and that sci-fi tonality that defines the film. It's nothing inherently unique but the instrumentation and effect the brief motif has sets the tone perfectly. The main theme itself is instantly iconic; a heroic, sweeping melody that sounds just as adventurous and awe-inspiring as you'd expect from a Transformers score. It sounds like that of an aspiring hero, yet has the bravado and urgency to make it feel not generically heroic, but heroic in the sense of facing something larger than yourself; defying the odds you're faced with and remaining triumphant. Given the themes of the movie and the way Orion and his friends rise up against the tyranny of their system, it makes sense the main theme of the film would carry that same aura. It's one of my personal favorite themes in the Transformers series, and while it hasn't reached the maturity and iconic nature of Jablonsky's works, I feel as the sequels progress it'll reach a similar status for sure.
