Running between Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Virginia, is the CSX RF&P Subdivision. This vital and busy rail route carries CSX, Amtrak, and VRE passenger train traffic through Virginia, and connects the Eastern Seaboard.
Named after the former owner and operator of the line, the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad, this subdivision offers high train traffic at most times, and also many scenic locations for trainwatching.
In this video, we will explore the RF&P Subdivision between Ashland and Arlington, Virginia.
All footage in this video is from late 2023 - 2024, and it's interesting to look back at what was running then, versus now. Many of the GE P42DC locomotives have been replaced with newer Siemens ALC42 Charger locomotives, and all of the GE P40DC locomotives have been retired.
