The rarely known "original mix" of the THX Cimarron trailer, in all of its high fidelity glory, has been uncovered again, now with a proper audio scan compared to the commonly known camcorder and microcassette recordings.
I used FFmpeg's "surround" filter to translate the 2ch matrixed Dolby SR track into discrete-ish 5.1 tracks (Dolby Stereo is not discrete, so it won't be as accurate to the actual 6ch mix), then I used Audacity to clean it up, including reducing noise (it was initially transferred from an optical track, what else do you expect) and removing most of the pops (a mix of Click Removal and manual spectral edits for the harder-to-detect parts.)
There were a few things I could not fix, particularly the overmodulation at the beginning of the wormhole sequence (it can be heard in that one 'Film 90' clip, so presumably that might've affected all 35mm prints of this) and cleaning up the visuals (too time consuming of a task for me to attempt, plus YouTube's video compression might unintentionally help it out a little bit.)
