Footage of the PlayStation homebrew port of Giftscop (accurate fan recreation of the fictional videogame Petscop) running on a PlayStation 2 via the POPS (PlayStation One Portable Station) emulator. I would have played this natively if I had the means of doing so. (the SCPH-30001 R, the PS2 I used in this video, lacks the "MechaCon," so MechaPwn is out of the equation.)
There's a few problems with playing this the way I did, one in particular being horrendous USB 1.1 speeds. (My PlayStation 2 can't detect any hard drive I chuck into the Network Adapter anymore, likely a result of a blown picofuse. In addition, I also lack those "memory card adapters.")
There's also a few bugs in this version that don't occur in emulation (or a real PS1) from what I've observed:
- Throughout gameplay, there are weird crackles and pops. No clue why. (It's very noticable when walking on the keyboard in Pen's room at 4:40, and again at 5:55.)
- Once the button combination from the first video in the series is entered, a loud high-pitch noise can be heard starting at 6:42.
- The game locks up/freezes after exiting Even Care from entering the aforementioned button combination; (for those already familiar with the series: it never took me to "under the Newmaker Plane.")
As this is an old video, I have not tested the current build (Jun 22, 2026 as of publishing) on my PS2. It runs fine in emulation via DuckStation, PCSX-Redux, and a few other emulators I've tried.
