Editing tends to be the final hurdle preventing communication directors from creating genuine Catholic video content. Let me help you delete the confusion with our cut-through editing guidelines (see what I did there?).

One -  Remember the big picture. It’s easy to get lost in the weeds when there are a hundred clips in front of you. Take a step back and remember the overall goal of your video. What would your audience want to see most? Let the big picture guide those small decisions.

Two - Go with your gut reaction. How did the edit strike you the first time you viewed it? Note that, because your audience will be watching it once, not a dozen times, so the first impression is what matters.

Three - When in doubt, cut it. The point of editing is to create clarity, and, typically, the best way to get there is to eliminate as many unnecessary thoughts as possible. If you’re not sure about an idea or visual, that’s a pretty good indication that it should go.
