In this build series, I am working with Cliff Hall, a toolmaker from New Zealand. Cliff has invented a thread milling attachment for a knee mill that allows for cutting both internal and external threads of both metric and imperial pitches. It can be mounted on the rear edge of the XY table of a Bridgeport style mill and it is entirely manually operated. In this first episode:
* Machining the bronze leadscrew nut (spoiler alert, it all goes bad).
* Machining the bronze pivot for the ratio arm.
* Machining the pivot nut assembly from steel bar stock.
* Assembly of the most recently made parts and discussion about fitting the ptich scales and how they will be calibrated.
