Once the king of the rails, and found on just about every type of train out there, the SD40-2 is now hard to see leading trains on the mainline. When an SD40-2 leads, its a great sight, but seeing two together on a Class One? Now THAT is cool, and become a RARE sight to be seen.
We'll chase a pair of matching SD40-2s as they make their way east on train L516. These two Illinois Central units used to be on the Iron Range, but have now found their way to other assignments on the CN. Since these are no longer on the Iron Range, who knows where they'll show up. We'll also get a nice throwback view of these units on the Iron Range, before they got replaced by rebuilt GE locomotives. Seeing a pair of 40s hasn't happened on L506/516/517 in a solid 10 to 15 years. This was a FUN, memorable, and enjoyable chase in Wisconsin. Who knows if it'll happen again!
