Almost 40 years ago, the Milwaukee Road disappeared, having been taking over by the Soo Line. Fast forward to 2025, and a survivor has found itself back on home rails in the form of KCS 2022, WITH an amazing sounding horn. Lets chase this classic locomotive up the River Sub, and towards Saint Paul on a beautiful July day.
We'll start off in Wabasha, MN as we get our first view of this train as is accelerates out of town. The horn on KCS 2022 is a GREAT sounding K5LA, and it really sets it apart from the mundane, normal CPKC units. After Wabasha, the train is seen again as it pulls through the picturesque curves of Maple Springs. Following a meet with two eastbounds, the chase continues toward Saint Paul. After a few other locations, and great run byes with the horn, we get to see the train on last time crossing the Mississippi River at Hastings, MN. It was great to see this former Milwaukee Road unit leading, and on home rails once again!
