Large changes are coming to the Rapid City, Pierre, and Eastern Railroad. For over a decade, its been an all EMD railroad, and stronghold for SD40-2s. This is all about to change, and quickly, as 'new' locomotives start to arrive on the property. Lets take a look at the classic SD40-2, just as the C44-9Ws start to arrive, and displace them from the property.
Things start off in last August of 2025; we'll chase two sets of SD40-2s from Mankato, MN all the way towards Lake Benton, MN. One set is made up of three SD40-2s, and the other is a quad set of four. Along the way the SD40-2s will be seen smoking, screaming, and putting on a cool show as they working out their final months on the railroad. We'll even get a glimpse of things to come with a view of the C44-9s running out of Mankato. Lots of big changes happening on this cool railroad!
