What if a molecule your gut makes to digest fat could protect you from a heart attack?

A new study in Nature Cardiovascular Research found that people with coronary artery disease have lower levels of DCA (deoxycholic acid) — a gut-derived bile acid that reduces blood clotting. Since clots cause most heart attacks and strokes, this matters.

Researchers showed:
• Lower DCA = more platelet clumping
• More clumping = higher cardiovascular risk
• Supplementing mice with DCA, DCA-producing microbes, or healthy human fecal transplants literally reduced heart-tissue death during heart attacks
