British author Alexander Fullerton was a naval officer during the second world war on the battleship Queen Elizabeth and later on submarines. His first novel, Surface! was published in 1953 to considerable success.
This novel, from eight years later, continues the themes of submarine warfare when the HMS Setter is sent on a risky mission into the North Sea in order to rescue a Norwegian Resistance leader.
