There are also some new quests that give new formations instead of materials (on the first clear, anyways). For this one at least winning is very easy because both are vulnerable to paralysis and sleep, and the turtle is vulnerable to instant death (though given that it took so many tries to stick, it's probably heavily resistant still).
EDIT: Looks like the turtle actually has a hollow star resistance (95%) to instant death. Yeah it's probably not a great thing to rely on; just paralyze and kill it with violence instead.
