The Mark Sanchez Butt Fumble Play 🤦‍♂️

On November 22, 2012, New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez committed the "Butt Fumble," widely considered one of the most embarrassing and iconic bloopers in NFL history. The play took place during a primetime Thanksgiving Day game against the New York Jets' division rivals, the New England Patriots, at MetLife Stadium.

With 9:10 remaining in the second quarter and the Jets trailing 14-0, Mark Sanchez took a snap under center. The play was instantly broken from the start after Sanchez turned the wrong way to hand off the ball, missing his running back

Scrambling to salvage the play, Sanchez ran forward toward the line of scrimmage. At the same time, Patriots nose tackle Vince Wilfork bulldozed and "forklifted" Jets offensive lineman Brandon Moore backward. Sanchez slid right into the backside of Moore. The impact with his teammate's buttocks knocked the ball loose from Sanchez's hands.

Patriots safety Steve Gregory scooped up the loose football and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown. The play catalyzed a historic 52-second meltdown for the Jets.
