WORST WAY TO MISS THE PLAYOFFS 😳

The Arizona Cardinals knocked the Minnesota Vikings out of the playoffs on December 28, 2003, in one of the most stunning endings in NFL history. The Minnesota Vikings entered the final game of the regular season (Week 17) needing a win against the 3-12 Cardinals to clinch the NFC North division title and secure a playoff berth. Wide receiver Nate Poole caught the ball near the sideline as he was hit and forced out of bounds by the Vikings' defense. Under the NFL's "force-out" rule at the time, the referee ruled that Poole would have landed inbounds if he hadn't been pushed, making it a walk-off touchdown. The Cardinals won 18-17.

The play famously generated one of the most iconic radio broadcasts in sports history by Vikings play-by-play announcer Paul Allen: "McCown takes the snap... fires into the end zone... CAUGHT! TOUCHDOWN! NO! NO! The Cardinals have knocked the Vikings out of the playoffs!"

The Vikings were instantly eliminated from the postseason. Their fierce rivals, the Green Bay Packers, won the NFC North instead. By winning the game, the Cardinals dropped from the #1 overall pick to the #3 pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. This ultimately worked in their favor, allowing them to draft future Hall-of-Fame wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.
