If you fall into the water and enter a tag barrel at the same time, you will gain control. This was found by Adam Whitmore.

When you surface after restoring your moveset, you will be able to swim backwards until you jump and land in the water again.
1:54 A strategy to switch kongs and leave the barrel range without having it reset your kong: Look for a position where going into C-up mode barely keeps the tag barrel menu on screen. Then face away from the barrel while still in C-up mode, take out and put away the fairy camera, and then press A. You will be swimming towards the camera and away from the tag barrel. If you stay invisible, you successfully escaped the barrel range.
